GBA Movie Player

GBA Movie Player

The GBA Movie Player is a small, inexpensive device that allows your Game Boy Advance system to be used as an mp3 player, movie viewer, e-Book reader, NES emulator and more. The cartridge plugs into your GBA/GBA SP or Nintendo DS and uses Compact Flash cards to access your media. You can even multi-task, meaning it will let you listen to music while reading an e-Book.

The GBA Movie Player does not include any Compact Flash card or any way to transfer data to a Compact Flash card. So in order for the unit to be useful you'll need to already have (or buy) a Compact Flash card and USB card reader. Once you have these required items, transfering data from your computer to the card is simple. Just copy the desired files (music, movies, e-Books, NES ROMs, etc.) to the card.

Movies and music files must be converted to the proper format using the supplied conversion software. This is a straightforward process that allows you to fine tune the audio and video quality based on the available space on your Compact Flash card.

The NES emulator is one of the best reasons to use the GBA Movie Player. It allows you to play NES ROMs using your GBA. One caveat is that because the game is loaded completely into the GBA's system memory (just as when playing single-cartridge multi-player via the GBA link cable) there are some limitations on the size of the ROMs that can be played.

The bottom line is that for $25, you can play MP3s, watch movies, and play NES ROMs on your GBA. Plus, due to the strong development community there are many "homebrew" applications for the unit that provide even more possibilities. If you already own a Compact Flash card, USB card reader, and GBA or GBA SP this inexpensive device will add some sweet functionality to your GBA.
